Youth Programmes

Working with young people is energising, valuable and much needed work. Beyond Walls are committed to working in partnership with individuals and organisations, to develop programmes and processes that seek to create meaningful and genuine experiences for young people.

For over a decade now the people involved in Beyond Walls have worked with many different organisations across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and across the United Kingdom, as well as further afield in countries such as Israel/Palestine, USA, Afghanistan and South Africa. Participatory facilitation and experiential learning are core elements of our approach, and we recognise that people are individual, different and each at their own unique stage of their journey, and so the processes and projects that Beyond Walls have been part of creating have been varied. Examples include; deep dialogue work with people and communities emerging from violent conflict, through to organisations seeking to create colourful and meaningful ways of engaging young people and children.

Some examples of the projects Beyond Walls Directors have been involved in developing include:

  • Belfast Giants Community Foundation Reading Programme – working with the non-sectarian sport of Ice Hockey to create a story book that encouraged children to read while promoting the message of diversity.
  • Fuse Ministries Portadown – working with a group of young men from the Kilicomaine estate to develop leadership and explore the issues facing young people in communities across Northern Ireland and beyond.
  • Giant H.E.R.O.S – working with young people from Finglas Dublin, East & South Belfast and Holywood on a unique programme using Ice Hockey to celebrate diversity, respect differences and grow personally.
